What will you learn?
Participants will be assumed to have a basic understanding of sustainable
commercial buildings and at the end of the session should take away:
an appreciation of the links between sustainability and business strategy
an understanding of the concept of intangible value
an appreciation of how to influence and communicate the benefits of sustainable
commercial buildings to senior management, clients and key decision makers.
Course Content
This workshop, based on the Your Building (www.yourbuilding.org) business case
module, presents the business cases for sustainability – the rationale for why
individuals and companies should make decisions in favour of sustainability when
owning, developing, designing, building, occupying, or managing commercial
buildings. This workshop will:
introduce the concept of a business case
identify business case drivers and value factors
provide case study examples of various business case elements
work through, with participants, the creation of a business case
familiarise participants with sustainable business case tools, models and concepts.
Course Presenters
Kendra Wasiluk has over 10 years experience in the commercial building sector
in a number of roles including interior designer, project manager, sustainability
consultant, research officer and academic. A large portion of her career was spent
in the commercial building sector in south western Ontario (Canada) and more
recently in Australia.
Usha Iyer-Raniga’s primary interest is in sustainability of the built environment,
in achieving practical solutions to ensure sustainable outcomes. Her career
spans architectural practices in India, Canada and Australia, as well as buildings
sustainability teaching and research. More recently, Usha has worked in the
public sector on developing and implementing sustainability policy and regulation
in the built environment.
