    Course Content
    This workshop will provide participants with an invaluable insight into valuation considerations when examining the relationship between sustainability and commercial buildings.

    The emphasis is placed on:
  • discussing the broad valuation concepts with regards to commercial buildings
  • examining the relevance of sustainability to specific value drivers
  • considering the role of different property market stakeholders and how sustainability affects their perception of value
  • undertaking a 'hands-on' approach to considering different scenarios
  • looking forward to future trends in commercial buildings markets with regards to sustainability and value.

    Course Presenters
    Richard Reed has authored Valuation articles for the Your Building website. Over many years Richard has gained 'hands on' experience and knowledge about property and real estate. His background is as a real estate valuer, being previously employed in both private and government firms with the focus placed on properties. His higher education has focused specifically on the property discipline, which includes a PhD at the University of Queensland centred on property markets. Richard is a member of the Australian Property Institute (API) and recently edited 'The Valuation of Real Estate' (2007) text for the API, as well as being co-editor of 'The Australian and New Zealand Property Journal'. In 2008 he published 'A Greener House' and 'Property Development,' both with Sara Wilkinson as co-author. He is a member of RICS as well as other Australian and overseas property associations. In addition he is editor of 'The International Journal of Housing Markets and Analysis' published in the UK and has presented at many Australian and international conferences. He also presents regularly at industry events and is widely published in the area. Currently he is Professor of Property and Real Estate at Deakin University (Melbourne) and lectures to students about property and sustainability.

    Sara Wilkinson has been working in the renovation and refurbishment of buildings, both residential and commercial, for over 24 years. She first came across sustainability or environmental issues in 1988 and has been active in this area ever since. Sara qualified professionally in 1987 as a chartered Building Surveyor and is now a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a professional body with over 140,000 members covering land, property and construction. She has been teaching sustainable building practices since 1992 both in the UK and Australia. Sara has completed numerous research projects on the topic of building sustainability and has published her work in professional and academic journals as well as presenting her findings at conferences around the world. Sara has lectured for many years on sustainability at The University of Melbourne on sustainability and is now lecturing at Deakin on sustainable construction.
